Wordcamp Australia 2010

Wordcamp Australia 2010

It looks like we might finally get another WordPress WordCamp in Australia later this year.

From the Australian WordCamp Association web site:

We’re in preliminary planning for WordCamp Australia 2010. If you’re interested in helping out, please get in touch with me (Anthony Cole – me [at] anthony [dot] ) or Dan Milward (dan [at] instinct [dot] ). We’d love to hear from you.

It looks like the event will happen in Melbourne in the first weeks of December. Nothing is official yet, and we’re looking for space for the event in addition to sponsorship and what have you, so if you’re keen, we are too.

And for those who don’t know (from

WordCamp, n.

WordCamp is a 1 or 2 day conference for WordPress users and developers. The focus is on how to be a better blogger, on the development and future of WordPress, and other topics of interest.

Today’s video is Seth Godin at TED2009 and in it he gives an inspiring talk about ‘tribes’ and ‘creating a movement’. Seth’s Blog is one I try to read everyday, I suggest you go check it out. And if you don’t know what TED is you should go there  too.

You might have noticed that I have been tinkering away behind the scenes and there are a few new things here on the blog:

  • WP Greet Box is going to say hi when you first visit a post, and it delivers a tailored message depending upon where you came from… I think it’s pretty cool.
  • ‘Ads by Google’ have appeared in the sidebar using the Easy AdSense plugin and under photos and videos (with AdSense Under Image: reloaded)… I’ve tried to keep them minimal and relatively discrete… if you see anything that interests you, please click the link 🙂 everybody has bills to pay.
  • I’ve imported many of the posts from my two other blogs over on Blog.une, Owe My Eyeball and Ross M. W. Blog. That meant I had to install the “Viper’s Video Quicktags” plugin, which almost seamlessly allowed me to import the video previously embedded with Anarchy Media Player which is getting a bit old these days.

There are more changes coming… just you wait… I hope you enjoy…

Mac mini server is now hosted on this Mac mini server

After much mucking about, I finally got my new Mac mini server up and running and doing everything I used to do with Ubuntu (and more and more easily). Thanks to Kevin Leah for his very simple yet comprehensive how-to entitled Running WordPress on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server and of course, thanks to Matt & the WordPress crew for making the installation of WordPress such a breeze.

Now if only I can maintain my vow to write blog posts more often… 🙂
